They can either turn their Xbox One off, or use it offline. When gamers boot up their Xbox One, they’re signed into their account, only to be met with the error message that locks them out. It could be that a planned Spring update has been inadvertently launched earlier than planned, causing havoc with Xbox One consoles. However, the issue seems far more widespread.
The problem initially seemed related to the Xbox One Preview Program, with a new update seemingly breaking before it had a chance to update the console. “You need this update to use your console, but something went wrong,” the error reads. Error code 0x8b050033 0x00000000 0x00000201 is proving to be a major pain for Xbox One owners the world over, and no one seems to know what’s wrong with their console.Īs first spotted by Stevivor and also by a host of gamers on Reddit, the faux update appears to brick consoles, stopping them from connecting online, or in rare cases, boot the console up at all.
